Introducing the 3/2mm Wetsuit
The ideal neoprene wetsuit for mid-season.
A quick reminder: the thickness of a neoprene wetsuit is calculated to maximize body heat, thereby optimizing the duration of your session, and flexibility to maximize your performance while paddling and on the wave.
At ONE SURFING CO, we use Japanese neoprene. In addition to being an eco-friendly design made from limestone to avoid all petrochemical elements, it offers the best warmth in the most extreme conditions while providing optimal comfort and flexibility.
Everything is calculated based on these two very important aspects to maximize your performance.
The seam placement is designed to prevent irritation and give you maximum freedom of movement.
The distribution of neoprene thickness is also calculated to maximize warmth/weight vs. flexibility.
Thus, we have the greatest thickness on the torso and thighs, with a thinner layer in the arms/shoulders and lower legs. This way, heat is retained in key areas, and you maintain optimal freedom of movement in your paddling and every maneuver.
A little anecdote: Matt (ONE's founder) tested our wetsuits in a completely different context than surfing: triathlon. He trained for 6 months for the swimming portion in the Hossegor canal with the 3/2mm wetsuit.
He swam all winter without getting cold, but with astonishing comfort to work on his technique.
He started his race at the 2023 Ironman 70.3 Les Sables d'Olonne with his 2/2mm neoprene wetsuit, finishing the swim in 29 minutes for 1.9km. "I've never swum so well…" So, was it due to his training or his equipment? A good mix of both is the perfect solution.
Therefore, a surfing wetsuit capable of accompanying you in long-distance swimming demonstrates its qualities in both performance and comfort.
Japanese neoprene is used by all major triathlon wetsuit brands.

After presenting the thinking and various tests of our surf wetsuit range, we now need to focus on our 3/2mm wetsuit, available for adults and children.

Who is the 3/2mm surf wetsuit for?

The 3/2mm neoprene wetsuit is ideal for those new to surfing. Initially, you might not want to surf in very cold water; that will come once the passion for surfing is well established.
It's a full wetsuit that will protect your entire body from potential impacts and UV rays.
Indeed, a full wetsuit provides an optimal sense of protection, making it perfect for beginners.
Finally, the 3/2mm neoprene wetsuit is an integral part of the kit for experienced surfers, right up to professionals.
It represents the perfect transition between cold winter water and summer. We're talking about optimizing performance here. The 3/2mm is lighter, more flexible, and more comfortable than the 4/3mm, so it's essential for surfers to use it to fully enjoy every wave.
Furthermore, for competitors, the 3/2mm is a major asset. They use it for a 20-30 minute heat, even in the middle of winter, to maximize flexibility in every maneuver at the expense of warmth. But for such a short duration and with the adrenaline rush, the cold is bearable, so it's more judicious to prioritize high performance!
Finally, the 3/2mm is the ideal wetsuit for children. It protects against UV rays for spending the whole day at the beach. Even in mid-summer, children are more prone to feeling cold, so it will keep them warm!
Generally, when you start surfing, you avoid going in the middle of winter in very cold water. So this wetsuit is perfect for accompanying KIDS on their first waves! It's just the beginning of a long adventure!

In what water temperature should the 3/2mm neoprene wetsuit be used?
The 3/2mm neoprene wetsuit is ideal for use in water temperatures between 14°C and 18°C. Of course, external conditions such as wind or lack of sun can impact your perception of cold.
It can also be used in water temperatures above 18°C. However, this may affect your surfing performance as you'll feel heavier on the wave. It's like going for a run in mid-summer wearing a sweater.
The 3/2mm surf wetsuit is therefore ideal for the mid-season; it's the perfect transition between summer and winter.
Some surfers are lucky enough to wear it all year round, for example in Portugal, where the water temperature varies very little and stays around 17°C all year.
For those less sensitive to cold, it can replace the 4/3mm in Les Landes and the Basque Country. Provided, of course, you have quality neoprene and an "internal fleece" to maximize warmth. We'll discuss this further down in the article.

How long will my 3/2mm wetsuit last?
Since this wetsuit will be primarily used during the mid-season, it may last longer than others.
Indeed, its use will be less intensive than a 4/3mm winter wetsuit, which might be used for over 6 months.
Thus, your 3/2mm will likely have a longer lifespan. For intensive use, surfers often change their 4/3mm every year. However, they can keep their 3/2mm for at least 2 years. It all depends on where you live, meaning the water temperature throughout the year, and whether your practice is intensive or not.

What is the best 3/2mm surf wetsuit?
The best 3/2mm neoprene wetsuit is:
- One that keeps you warm in the lowest possible temperature, around 14°C.
- One that is light and flexible to maximize your performance.
- One that offers incredible freedom of movement compared to your 4/3mm surf wetsuit.
- One that has excellent quality and durable neoprene.

At ONE SURFING CO, we design our range of adult and child neoprene wetsuits without compromise. We use the best available materials with a strong eco-responsible approach.
As mentioned above, we use Japanese neoprene, which offers the best performance currently available.
We have added an "inner lining," more commonly known as fleece, to the torso and back to maximize body heat.
Our pricing is fair and adapts to your practice.
- First, we have a take-back program for your worn wetsuits for recycling, and you receive a discount (up to 20% off) on a classic purchase.
